North Vancouver — The District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters Union, IAFF Local 1183 have once again endorsed federal Liberal incumbent candidates, Terry Beech and Jonathan Wilkinson, for re-election.
Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics put their own safety on the line every day in service to all Canadians, at great personal expense. Both Jonathan and Terry have taken the priorities of the District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters very seriously.
Since being elected in 2015, our Liberal government has been proactive in working on issues to keep Canadians and Canadian firefighters safe. We responded directly to the input received from the IAFF by:
Creating the Memorial Grant Fund for First Responder families.
Developing a National Action Plan for Post Traumatic Stress Injuries for first responders.
Restoring funding to provinces and territories to support Heavy Urban Search and Rescue teams.
Repealing legislation that would have impeded the ability of firefighter associations to represent their members on important issues like firefighter health and safety.
Continuing to work towards resolving issues that affect public safety, including those related to the National Building Code and toxic flame retardants.
In a statement recognizing Jonathan and Terry’s support for firefighters, the Fire Fighters Union, IAFF Local 1183 offered their support to Jonathan Wilkinson’s and Terry Beech’s re-election in the federal ridings of North Vancouver and Burnaby North-Seymour.
“Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. Beech, and the Liberal Party have shown through their actions over the past several years that they believe in the value of public safety and in the value of supporting first responders across Canada,” they said.
“When it comes to our first responders, we have a duty to take care of those who take care of us,” said Jonathan Wilkinson.
“First responders put their lives on the line everyday to protect and serve our communities. It’s our responsibility to do everything we can to support them and their families,” said Terry Beech.
