Nowruz Mubarak!

Nowruz Mubarak! Tonight marks a very special time for thousands of Iranian-Canadians, Ismaili-Canadians and others who celebrate the Spring Equinox. It is certainly very important event for those who live on the North Shore – normally full of lively celebrations of friends, family and good food.

This is typically a joyous and family oriented time. However, with recent events relating to the spread of COVID-19 and the very significant and real concerns for the health of our families and our communities, many public celebrations and gatherings have been cancelled.

During this time, perhaps we can best celebrate family and community through taking care to help in the fight against this virus. Stay out of large groups and keep a safe distance from others. While the current circumstances are indeed very concerning, if we all act thoughtfully and responsibly, we will get through this together.

Earlier today my friend Sholeh Ojagh sent out her own Nowruz message to friends. I think she captured very well my sentiments:

“May you and your loved ones be able to build your arch of safety, calm and confidence to survive this horrific storm. May we put these fearful days behind us and live our happier brighter days soon. May Nowruz and spring bring hope, resilience, courage & stamina to all the people around the world”
